    This paper discusses the issue of equity in the distribution of ARV drugs in the Malawi health system. Malawi is one of the countries most severely affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa. It is also one of the poorest countries in the world and it is estimated that every year, about 85 000 Malawians die from AIDS.

    Effects of a mass media intervention on HIV-related stigma: ‘Radio Diaries’ program in Malawi

    HIV-related stigma has been recognised as a significant public health issue, yet gaps remain in development and evaluation of mass media interventions to reduce stigma. The Malawi ‘Radio Diaries’ (RD) programme features people with HIV telling stories about their everyday lives. This study evaluates the programme's effects on stigma and the additional effects of group discussion.

    System-wide effects of the Global Fund in Malawi: baseline study report

    In January 2002, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GF) was established as an additional financial instrument to address these three diseases. Malawi has so far received a substantial GF grant for HIV/AIDS, and another grant for malaria has been approved, although the grant agreement with the GF has not yet been signed.

    Retrospective Analysis of School Based Malaria Treatment Programme and Impact on Health and Education Outcomes in Mangochi District, Malawi

    This paper presents the findings of a retrospective evaluation of a school-based malaria treatment programme implemented in Mangochi district in Malawi, where malaria accounts for 40 per cent of outpatient visits, and eighteen per cent of all hospital deaths. It is a major cause of anaemia in children under the age of 5 years.
